Dr. Margarita Calderón is a Professor Emerita at Johns Hopkins University and serves on national preschool-12th literacy panels and advisory boards. Her focuses include teacher preparation and language and literacy development for English language learners. Calderón is President and CEO of Margarita Calderón & Associates, Inc., which works with schools, districts, and state departments of education.
She was principal investigator in a five-year study in middle and high schools funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York to develop ExC-ELL, a professional development program for math, science, social studies, and English language arts teachers with EL populations. Other longitudinal studies have been funded by the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Labor, National Institutes of Health, and Texas Education Agency. She has over 100 publications, is an international speaker, and conducts comprehensive professional development programs throughout the country.
